Mental Health Coordinator-Job Description
Position Classification: Permanent Full Time
Accountability: Executive Director
Description:
The Mental Wellness Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation/facilitation of programs to the public throughout the Municipality of Wood Buffalo on topics relating to mental health such as: emotional regulation, mental health awareness, resiliency, and recovery, as well as peer support.
The Mental Health Coordinator requires a deep understanding of mental health, mental illness, and suicide prevention; has demonstrated experience in public speaking and group facilitation; practical knowledge of strategies for promoting mental health; and knowledge of community mental health resources. The Mental Health Coordinator will be skilled at using technology efficiently and effectively and developing and maintaining professional relationships with community stakeholders.
Responsibilities – including but not limited to:
Coordination
- Collect and maintain accurate records of statistics, contact information and correspondence for all: programs, volunteers, recruiting and training.
- Communicate program scheduling information to other staff members. Inform staff location of program lists.
- Coordinate with individuals, groups, organizations, and rural communities to book and facilitate training.
Public Relations
- Complete follow up with participants to debrief projects, workshops etc.
- Negotiate contracts with outlying areas for presentations, workshops etc. in partnership with the Executive Director.
- Develop relationships with community stakeholders.
- Prepare and present to organizations and promote programs throughout the Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
- Participation in appropriate conferences and workshops as part of organizing committee and presenter.
- Attend and participate in CMHA run events such as AGM, Mental Health Week, First Responder’s Golf Tournament, Charity Jam, and any other fundraising etc.
- Represent CMHA’s Mental Wellness Program in all printed ads and or radio/television.
- Participate in staff development; read and research material related to job and attend workshops/courses as available and approved by the Executive Director.
- Provides positive outlook on mental health and addiction issues.
- Must be willing to travel to remote locations on a flexible schedule, including but not limited to, office hours, evenings, and weekends.
Administrative
- Provide up to date program information to individuals and organizations as requested.
- Attend AGM and other meetings as required.
- Maintain quarterly report statistics and outcome information.
- Prepare reports and record statistics for ongoing grants.
- Regular reports to Executive Director regarding costs of programs and program updates.
Supervision Required
- Receive overall direction from the Executive Director.
- Provides input in program development, budget, policies, and procedures relating to program and opportunities for partnerships.
- Work with the Executive Director and the other Mental Health Coordinators to develop yearly program proposals to funders.
Qualifications
- Minimum college diploma in human services
- Strong group facilitation and presentation skills
- Very comfortable with public speaking
- Knowledge of community resources and mental health issues
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows applications, Canva, and social media applications
- Ability to problem solve
- Lived experience around mental health and recovery
