The Canadian Mental Health Association of Wood Buffalo would like to thank all of the community members for coming out to support our Welcome Back Wellness BBQ that was held on Wednesday, August 24th, 2016. We understand that going back to school can create mental health problems on a ‘normal’ year. Returning back to school after the wild fires can bring up a lot of emotional and psychological symptoms. We wanted to show the community that we are here for any and all of their mental health concerns.
The BBQ was held at Ecole McTavish Jr. High School where more than 600 community members stopped by to enjoy an afternoon of free activities, food and important information regarding mental health services and resources. The bouncy castles, balloon animal artist, and face painter were bombarded with lines of children enjoying the carefree summer day. Everyone also got to enjoy free hotdogs, popcorn and drinks.
CMHA – Wood Buffalo would also like to thank all of the organizations who took time out of their day to be available to support the mental health of our community members. On hand were representatives from PAWS for People, Some Other Solutions, Borealis Counselling Services, Legacy Counselling Services, Alberta Health Services, and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
Our day could not have been possible without the hard work of our wonderful volunteers and some additional community businesses. We would like to thank Culligan Water, ATCO gas, Fort McMurray Public School District, Dance Play, Maria’s Face Painting, Nelly Tinkess from Balloon Moose Studio, and Birchwood Rentals.
It was truly a fantastic day enjoyed by all who attended and all who were a part of the event.
