The March Mullet Campaign is designed to initiate an honest conversation associated with mental health. To highlight the reality that mental health affects us all directly and indirectly. The mullet is a pillar for change to breakdown the stigma. Step out of your comfort zone and let your mullet tell a story and support the movement.
This year CMHA Wood Buffalo Region is supported by Presenting Sponsor, Alberta Teachers Association – Local 48 and community supporters ‘rocking’ mullets during March in support of mental health, including: The Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Rock 97.7 and Country 93.3, Voigt Harley-Davidson, snapd Wood Buffalo and many other local individuals.
We wish for society to understand the difference between mental health and mental illness and further so to support those who are suffering by providing innovative strategies which will enable financial contributions to existing mental health programs.
- To create a stigma free climate that will infiltrate globally. Each mullet provides life and integrity to a personal story of survival, experience, suffering and resiliency.
- To pave an avenue that encourages people to safely discuss their intimate experiences with mental health.
Studies show that one in five Albertans is impacted by mental illness at some point during their lifetime. However, many do not seek professional support because of fear of being judged by others or because they lack knowledge of available mental health programs and services.
“Our region went through a lot last year and continues to go through a lot. More than ever, it’s important that people know that the CMHA Wood Buffalo is here to help them,” said Oil Barons President David Fitzgerald.
Please support those who are participating during the March Mullet Campaign and donate here. They are helping raise awareness on mental health and illness. Funding raised will stay in the RMWB to help meet the mental health needs of our community.
