At the Spring Market and Trade Show attendees could cast a ballot of four worthy organizations to receive a $10,000 donation from Syncrude’s Community Contribution. Close to 3,000 people voted with Canadian Mental Health Association – Wood Buffalo Region receiving 1441 votes as the winner.
The $10,000.00 will help CMHA broaden their reach of providing programs and services to the Wood Buffalo Community. “We will utilize this funding to support our monthly programing as well as offering programs to the northern and southern communities of our region”, said, CMHA Executive Director, Christine Savage. “The votes and support of residents show that we are breaking down the barriers of stigma and increasing mental health awareness and understanding, but we need to expand our reach of services so that all have access to professional mental health support. We sincerely appreciate all community members who took the time to vote. We would like to thank and acknowledge the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo, Norfort Gymnastics Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters for all the great work they do. We work together to serve this community”.
“We are pleased to support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) with this donation of $10,000, and year-round through our Good Neighbours program” says Kara Flynn, Syncrude’s Vice President, Government and Public Affairs. “CMHA provides critical mental health services to the Wood Buffalo region at a time when it is greatly needed, and as we’ve seen this weekend – the community agrees.”
